Ego is the trait that stops many people from changing their physique or getting stronger.
Next time you’re in the gym take a look around. How many people (in particular men) do you see lifting far too heavy or trying to hit PB’s daily?
My latest viewings was the same guy, without warming up jumping straight to the 60kg Dumbbells for a single arm row with absolutely criminal technique then straight to even worse form on bench press lifting so heavy his training buddy was having to bent over row it for him.
When trying to add size don’t get hung up on how heavy you lift. Yes, you’re not going to get massive with 3kg Dumbbells but on the other hand, not being able to nail you’re reps because you’re heavy lifting ego kicked in isn’t going to get you gains either.
If you’re aim is strength, don’t let you’re ego overtake. Allow yourself deload weeks, stick to the plan, don’t try and set 1RM’s every week!
Play the numbers, plan for success, get stronger but don’t allow ego to get in the way of progress.
